Jake Paul’s manager issues statement on ‘contract clause’ after fresh allegations of rigged Mike Tyson fight
Jake Paul’s manager Nakisa Bidarian has launched a furious rant at the ‘dumb’ allegations from Michael Irvin who claimed there was a clause in the contract to limit Mike Tyson’s abilities.
The Netflix fight, which was watched by millions all over the world last week, failed to live up to the hype with Tyson landing just over a dozen punches in the full eight rounds.
Fans voiced their anger on social media after the clash with many questioning whether the fight was rigged.
NFL legend Irvin went one step further and alleged there was a ‘no uppercut’ clause in the contract between Paul and Tyson.
Bidarian has now come out fighting against Irvin’s claims, calling the conspiracy theories regarding the legality of the bout as ‘dumb’.
“The only thing that bothers me is the continued kind of narrative and people saying the fight was rigged,” Bidarian told ‘The Ariel Helwani Show’.
“I saw something from Michael Irvin, he was on the broadcast and actually sat there with Jerry Jones.
“I saw something this week where he’s like, ‘Oh, yeah, I saw the contract and Mike couldn’t throw an uppercut’.
“I’m concerned there’s a CTE problem there for Michael Irvin because how would you see the contract to begin with that Mike Tyson couldn’t throw an uppercut? It’s beyond lunacy and the realm of reality of life.
“This was a regulated professional bout by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
“And we were partners with Netflix, the biggest media company in the world, who’s a public company.
“For anyone to suggest that this was in any way a rigged fight, they’re either dumb or they’re looking for attention.”
“I get it. Putting up posts [claiming] ‘proof it was rigged’ gets you good engagement.
“A lot of people comment, like and share. We’re in an attention economy. People say outlandish things to bring awareness to themselves.
“It’s a sad state of society that people want to spend their time like that.”
Paul has made no secret of his intentions to fight for a world championship title in his boxing career.
He’s already been inundated with offers from current and former boxers ready to step into the ring with the 27-year-old.
Undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev is the latest to have issued a direct challenge to Paul.
