The Irishman has been tipped to make his return to action this year, but a former UFC star has revealed how a defeat against Paul could be damaging for McGregor
Former UFC heavyweight contender Brendan Schaub believes a defeat against Logan Paul will ‘destroy’ Conor McGregor’s brand.
McGregor – a two-division champion in the UFC – has not fought since breaking his leg in the trilogy showdown with long-time rival Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 back in 2021. The Irishman was scheduled to make his UFC comeback last year against Michael Chandler, but was forced to pull out of the clash after picking up an injury in training.
Despite remaining confident that he’ll return to the cage this year, ‘The Notorious’ sensationally revealed last month that he’s in talks to take on Paul in a boxing bout. In a post uploaded to X – formerly known as Twitter – McGregor denied reports of a showdown with UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria and announced his desire to take on Paul, posting: “The rumours of a bout with Topuria are false. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon.”
The potential clash would net both men a huge $250million and would likely take place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, best known as a cricket venue. McGregor recently issued a stern warning to the 29-year-old, but Schaub believes defeat against the WWE superstar could affect ‘The Notorious’ in a big way.

In a video uploaded to his official YouTube channel, Schaub said: “If he [McGregor] gets starched [by Logan Paul], it’s gonna destroy his brand. After all these allegations, he hasn’t fought in forever, hasn’t won in a hot f second, and finally comes back — and let’s say he looks bad!
“Like out of shape, his movement’s off, people are gonna be like, ‘What the f***? I paid for this and you get starched by Logan Paul That would be the worst-case scenario if A. You’re a UFC fan, and B. You’re a Conor McGregor fan.”
Despite recent reports regarding a fight between the pair, it would appear Paul is seemingly now focused on his WWE career. During a recent pre-taped promo, the American said: “But you know what really must keep you up at night? I’ve been so good at this. And now, I’m dedicating my life to this. No more side hustle. No more bulls***. 100 per cent WWE superstar. This is the beginning of the era of Logan Paul!”
Logan’s younger brother, Jake has been tipped to face McGregor as well. ‘The Problem Child’ has taken many digs at the former two-division champion over the years. In a recent post uploaded to X – formerly known as Twitter – the American revealed the only way a clash between the two stars would ever happen.
“Now it all makes sense why Conor McGregor and his management team have been desperately trying to get MVP to negotiate for a fight between us,” he wrote. “As we told them them privately and I’m now saying it publicly…the only way we’re willing to explore me vs Conor in a pro boxing / MMA fight is if Dana White / UFC are at the table directly or make it clear they are ok with discussions. Conor is washed. Needs the Paul’s. Logan by however he wants.”
