Mike Tyson Under Investigation After Startling Confession Days Before Jake Paul Fight
Boxing legend Mike Tyson is set to undergo a health assessment by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) after making alarming comments regarding his physical condition.
The scrutiny comes just days before Tyson’s highly anticipated fight against social media star Jake Paul at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, scheduled for Friday. At 58, Tyson’s return to the ring marks his first professional fight since a shocking loss to Ireland’s Kevin McBride in June 2005.
Despite the lengthy hiatus, Tyson has shown remarkable speed and power in recent training videos. However, fans expressed concern after Tyson’s revelations in a Netflix documentary, where he detailed severe health issues he experienced during training, including an episode of vomiting blood and other distressing symptoms.
“A week and a half ago, I was training and feeling great,” Tyson shared in the documentary.
These health concerns led to a delay in Tyson’s comeback fight with Paul, initially slated for July 20, and were a catalyst for his undergoing treatment and recovery, during which Tyson claims he lost over 25 pounds in 11 days and needed multiple blood transfusions.

The TDLR is taking these revelations seriously, with TDLR Communications Manager Tela Goodwin Mange confirming that Tyson’s health will undergo a thorough assessment. “TDLR-appointed physicians will conduct comprehensive pre-fight physicals, reviewing Mr. Tyson’s medical history to determine his fitness to compete,” Mange told World Boxing News.
Tyson further expressed his determination to return to the ring despite the health scare, stating in the documentary:
“I asked the doctor if I was going to die, and she didn’t say no. She just said there were options. I don’t want to die in the hospital; I want to die in the ring. I had peaked and was ready, but the ulcer threw me off. I lost all my coordination and stamina.”
Tyson’s intense statements have brought TDLR’s pre-fight medical protocols under scrutiny, particularly given the aging fighter’s vulnerability to repeated injuries. Although the fight is heavily promoted and unlikely to be canceled at this stage, TDLR is committed to ensuring Tyson’s well-being through rigorous evaluations.
With the fight now days away, the boxing world awaits the outcome of these examinations. The upcoming face-off with Paul has already generated massive interest, but concerns about Tyson’s health remain a focal point as officials work to ensure the boxing icon’s safety.
