Every so often, TV talent shows manage to shine a light on genuine talent, and when they do, fame and fortune often come soon after (well, at least 10-minutes of the former).
This week’s TV champion is 12-year-old Grace VanderWaal who appeared on America’s Got Talent.
The young woman stood on stage with her Ukulele and performed her own song “I Don’t Know My Name” in front of a huge audience, big enough to make even the most respected artists nervous.
Asked before performing whether she thought she could win by judge Simon Cowell, VanderWaal said: “Miracles can happen, so possibly.”
After the performance, Cowell said that she could be “the next Taylor Swift.” Viewers were quick to note that, not only were the lyrics and style very close to Swift’s older days, but her hairstyle was indeed very similar to the superstar’s.
In the end, it was judge Howie Mandell who put the singer through, deciding almost instantly to press the Golden Buzzer, putting the 12-year-old through to the next stage.
Earlier this month, Cowell confirmed the judging panel for the UK’s X-Factor, bringing back some very familiar faces.
And then there were 10. The finalists for the World Car of the Year award have been revealed. The winner of the annual award will be announced at the New York International Auto Show in April.
The nominees and winner are picked by a panel of over 100 journalists from around the world, with the largest group coming from the U.S.
The all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 won the 2022 vote and the brand will be looking to repeat with the new Ioniq 6 sedan.
All of this year’s finalists, aside from the Mazda CX-60 and electric BMW iX1, are currently available in the U.S. or will be this year.
