British heavyweight vows to ‘retire’ Anthony Joshua if they fight next
Dillian Whyte has claimed that he could retire Anthony Joshua if the two were to meet for the second time.
Joshua and Whyte delivered a heavyweight classic when they met 10 years ago with Joshua winning by stoppage in round seven.
The two have gone their separate ways since that encounter, but Whyte has voiced his desire to face Joshua once more.
“[Joshua] Sounds perfect for me. They don’t need to ask me twice. They talk about me as an option, but they haven’t said anything to me, so it’s just negotiation tactics from them,” Whyte told Sky Sports.
“But I’m up for the fight and I’m ready to fight again.”
It appeared that Joshua was originally on a collision course to finally face Tyson Fury, but after the latter announced his retirement on Monday, it is unknown as to who the former unified heavyweight champion will face next.
Whyte could be in the opposite corner for Joshua’s next fight and the “Bodysnatcher” believes that the Olympian’s career is all but over following a brutal stoppage loss to Daniel Dubois last year.
“If he wants to fight, then all they’ve got to do is call me,” Whyte continued.
“I’m always up for fighting AJ. No problem for me. However, personally, I think he’s finished.”
Whyte and Joshua were set for a second meeting in 2023, but this fight was then cancelled after Whyte failed a drugs test in the build-up.
