David Morrell challenges David Benavidez: “I’ll knock him out”
Morrell and Benavidez will face each other at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on February 1
David Benavidez’s fight against David Morrell is just weeks away from taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on February 1, in a bout in which the ‘Mexican Monster’ is the favorite, but the Cuban threatens to knock him out.
In an interview with Gloves Off, Morrell questioned David Benavidez’s nickname by not understanding why he is called ‘Monster’ and promised a resounding victory.
“I don’t know why people say he’s ‘the monster,'” Morrell said in the interview, adding: “Boom, he’s falling 100 percent. I promise I’ll knock him out.”
Boxers often heat up fights with their statements, in a practice that helps to increase the interest of fans both to attend the fight and watch it on television, and if it is pay-per-view even more, as is the case of Benavidez-Morrell, which will headline the Premier Boxing Champions PPV on Prime Video.
The other reason for making provocative statements is to get into the heads of his rivals and Morrell flat out destroyed the mobility of the ‘Mexican Monster’ and his footwork: “Benavidez doesn’t know how to dance”.
Morrell compares Benavidez to Robocop
In BoxingScene, they continued with an account of Morrell’s analysis, who according to what he has seen of Benavidez, his style of moving in the ring is similar to that of a robot.
“Have you seen the movie RoboCop?” Morrell asked Gloves Off in a video Premier Boxing Champions posted on its YouTube channel and replied, “It’s the same,” recalling the main character from the 1987 film Robocop.
Morrell is unbeaten in his 11 fights, in which he has nine knockouts, including seven straight wins by knockout until August 2024, when he cut his streak by defeating Radivoje Kalajdzic by unanimous decision.
