Why Mike Tyson And Jake Paul Have Been Banned From Boxing
Mike Tyson and Jake Paul have been slapped with identical suspensions from boxing after their eight-round fight Friday, the 15th of November at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TLDR), which is the governing body responsible for sanctioning and overseeing the event in the first place, issued the mandatory minimum medical suspension of 24 days from the date of the event, according to MMA Junkie. The suspension includes sparring and boxing, which means neither fighter can put on the gloves in the gym to box with another fighter until Tuesday, the 9th of December at the earliest.
Medical suspensions from fighting are commonplace in combat sports, and the TLDR handed out suspensions to other boxers on the seven-fight card on Netflix, too, including Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor.
While Tyson and Paul cannot box for 24 days, others were given longer suspensions on account of how grueling their fights were.

Taylor and Serrano, who fought a high-stakes rematch for the undisputed world lightweight championship titles, which the Irishwoman won by decision, both received suspensions for 45 days. Though the high-profile women’s bout, like the Tyson-Paul headliner, was fought in two-minute rounds rather than three, Taylor and Serrano fought 10 rounds rather than eight. And, additionally, had engaged in a Fight of the Year contender, which thus likely explains the greater suspensions.
There was another banger of a fight earlier in the show between WBC welterweight world champion Mario Barrios who put his 147-pound belt on the line against teak tough Abel Ramos, and got to retain his belt, only just, because of a draw verdict after a hard-fought battle from both. The TDLR gave Barrios a 36-day suspension, and Ramos a 45-day suspension.
It is unclear when Taylor and Serrano would return to the ring anyway, but it was always likely they wouldn’t fight until Q2 in 2025, at the earliest. They had both shaken hands before the rematch on competing in a third installment of their ongoing combat sports saga. Serrano, specifically, wanted a trilogy fight to be fought in 12 x 3-minute rounds, which is how long male boxers fight in championship bouts.

Though Taylor is up 2-0 in fight wins over Serrano, the Puerto Rican star disputed the results on both occasions. A rematch, therefore, may be warranted.
As for Tyson, he did not rule out returning to the ring once again, and even suggested Logan Paul as an opponent. Logan, stunned, replied: “I’d f kill you, Mike,” much to the crowd’s annoyance, who booed his comments at the Jerry World.
