Women’s boxing champion insists she could beat Jake Paul after Mike Tyson fight
Women’s boxing champion Claressa Shields has called out Jake Paul insisting she could beat the YouTuber-turned-boxer after he beat 58-year-old Mike Tyson via decision
Undefeated WBC, WBF and WBO female light heavyweight world champion Claressa Shields has called out Jake Paul.
The 29-year-old beat Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse in July to win the light heavyweight titles having dominated the middleweight division, beating Maricela Cornejo in June last year to defend the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, WBF and The Ring titles. She is also a professional mixed martial artist, winning twice and losing once in the Professional Fighters League.
Shields was left unimpressed by the YouTuber-turned boxers victory over 58-year-old Mike Tyson earlier this month. Paul dominated the former heavyweight champion 31 years his senior in the ring to claim a unanimous decision win in the eight-round contest.

Speaking to TMZ, Shields became the latest name to challenge Paul in the ring with her oozing confidence she could beat ‘The Problem Child’. “I don’t think Jake Paul has the skills to get inside the ring with me,” said Shields. “Or any of the guys at 154 pounds and up who is ranked in the rankings. I’m not gonna lie to you. 1-10. I don’t think he could pick a guy 1 to 10 in any of the rankings, any of the weight classes and beat them.”
Shields previously made similar comments about beating Paul in a boxing match back in 2021. “I’m real boxer, I can beat up Jake Paul at the weight class that I am in right now,” Shields said at the time.
However, the two-time Olympic gold medallist has praised Paul for the impact he’s had bringing more fans and focus to the sport. “He’s bringing more eyes to the sport and that’s what you need,” Shields said. “Hopefully everybody who is involved on that side can keep building from that and also create a real blueprint to where it can be used for generations to come.”
Paul has received a plethora of callouts from fighters looking to score a major payday and be thrust into the limelight. However, some of these boxers are putting it all on the line with the likes of undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev recently teasing a potential bout against Paul.

Current IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois has also called out Paul in a fight which could potentially seeing Paul entering the ring with the possibility to become a world heavyweight champion if the talking comes to fruition.
“Hi Jake,” ‘Dynamite’ Good business on the weekend but how would you feel fighting for the legitimate heavyweight championship of the world. This is Daniel Dubois calling you out, let’s get it on,” he wrote on X following his victory over Anthony Joshua in September.
Paul also appears to have the chance to get in the ring with former middleweight champion Cesar Chavez Jr, the son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez and a former opponent to Canelo Alvarez. “It’s an option, we’re looking into it, let’s see, this week I have a meeting,” he said.
“I’d be interested in fighting a champion, but fighting Jake Paul for the fame and the media would put me in a position to fight against others. I’m not looking for it, it’s been presented. It’s not concrete, but let’s see what happens.”
